'18 UTEP Football
2018 UTEP Football schedule poster and digital media. With a new Athletics Director for UTEP Athletics came along a new coaching change and staff for UTEP Football. This beginning year for them has brought a new energy to the University as well as the city. Feeding off the #EPMAD campaign, the design had to be bright and engaging to match the new energy.
The concept was to bring a colorful and bright detail to a new dawn in UTEP Football. The new coaching staff lead by new Head Coach, Dana Dimel, is vibrant and energized to bring a high-velocity brand of football to the city of El Paso. El Paso is known for its sunshine & sunsets so I designed with that in mind which fit perfectly with UTEP colors as well. The idea was to execute a gradient background from the top sun bowl image to blue towards the bottom.
I wanted the poster to have a balance of hierarchy from top to bottom starting from campaign & sponsor branding down to schedule & disclaimer information. A bit of psychology was thought of when directing viewers eyes, guiding them from top to bottom with each touch-point of information. Also keeping distribution in mind of posters being rolled up or on flat surfaces. Should be able to be identified in any state of presentation.
I wanted to execute a balance of flat design along with layers of depth from the players and coach imagery. The focal point being the team with typography weaving in and out adding another layer of depth. Then the schedule is flat and legible but still colorful to stand out. Kept each logo within the color palette of the poster to give consistency overall.
I was able to get creative working with Marketing on the reveal of the poster across digital platforms. I wanted to utilize each platform to its best by providing sharp graphics as well as effective visual communication. Each post had great engagement and response from the UTEP loyal fan base. It clicked for both worlds of fans and creatives alike.
